Mestiza is a word used to mean of “mixed-race” in Latin American culture.
Our Cali-Mexa kitchen is a mix — of techniques, of cultures, and of traditions, made through the lens of our queer mexa-chicana experience.

We’re Damm and Abril — we make food with the love we learned from our abuelas and techniques we perfected working in some of the best kitchens in the world. We take inspiration from Mexican street food, street style, and cumbiones. Born and raised in Nezahualcoyotl and Santa Cruz, our project is a blend of borders, just like our experience is.
Mestiza is a traveling pop-up experience driven by your local, seasonal ingredients, with an emphasis on maiz. We’re here to challenge your idea of what Mexican food can be.
We make a love letter to our culture and our queer Latinidad. We believe good food should be accessible, and that our brothers and sisters picking our produce should be treated fairly and equitably, just like everyone who sits down to eat at our table.
